WEEK-1: CLOUD COMPUTING

‘Cloud computing is basically a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and virtualised resources are provided as a point of service over the internet, it used both the internet and the use of computer technology, where shared services are used to provide the resources, data, required software on demand to specific users’(“Understanding Cloud Computing”,n.d.,para.1). The main drawback of using the cloud computing on traditional IT infrastructure is that the users are no longer need to own their own infrastructure instead renting from a third party provider and also in cloud computing system, there’s a very high workload shift where local computers no longer have to do any heavy lifting when it comes to the ongoing applications.
Depending on the circumstances there are varied types of clouds available some of them are listed as, Public cloud, Community cloud, Hybrid cloud and Private cloud. Cloud computing is the next phase in the evolution of IT, because there would be no need to purchase any traditional set up models instead one can purchase and use software applications by using a simple subscription model and if you want to change your mind, cancel your service and subscription at the same time.(Jonathan Stickland,  2012)

WEEK-2: BUSINESS PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND MEASUREMENT

In today’s marketplace performance management has multiple types which can be classified as a corporate performance management, Business performance management (BPM), Operational performance management. However BPM is often done on top of operational systems. BPM entails reviewing the overall business performance and determining how the business can better reach its goals and it combines the process management methods with the new class of enterprise software tools. Only business managers can more directly measure, control and respond all the aspects regarding their operational processes (Beth T. Smith, 2004). Basically BPM is a set of tools, methods and technologies used to design, control and analyse the issues under a particular process, fundamentally the value of BPM lies in meeting the performance improvement and change management objectives(Jeff Aldridge, 2011). BPM has three main activities
1. Selection of goals,
2. Measuring information relevant to an organization progress against the goals.
3. Improving future performance against the goals.
BPM should integrate the processes with the CRM and ERP in order to gauge the customer satisfaction and control the customer trends and influence the shareholder value.

Week 3: SWOT ANALYSIS OF SAMSUNG

INTRODUCTION:

“SWOT is an acronym which stands for internal strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats facing the particular firm. (Val Renault, n.d.) It is widely used technique to have a quick overview of company situation and place in the market. Though it is a simple technique, it can have a great impact for the design of a successful business strategy and improve the technical values of a firm. Samsung Electronics Company is a part of the Samsung group which is one of the leading consumer electronics brands in the world. Basically it manufactures consumer electronic products such as mobiles, televisions and home appliances. It also has a wide area of manufacture in the field of semiconductors, information technology products and telecommunication infrastructure systems.

VISION STATEMENT:

Samsung electronics vision statement for the new decade is to “Inspire the world, create the Future.”(“Samsung Vision 2020,” n.d., Para. 1).

DESCRIPTION:

The main strength of Samsung electronics is low production costs which are favorable for the consumers and its production is mainly focused on low cost countries so that the goods with low production cost can benefit and it can offer good prices and earn huge margins. It also occupies place in one of the largest share into mobile phone sales in the world market.(“ Strategic Management Insight,” n.d., Para 5) These all key factors are very much useful for the company to make innovative ideas and make flexible and different design models that could attract the customers of all types.
Besides strengths it also has some weakness which is very strong enough to rebuild the company one it has been into the remarks list. The main issue now days everyone is familiar with is “Patent infringement” where Samsung is infringing Apple’s and some other company’s patents thus damaging its reputation and has to pay huge penalties.
SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths
Weaknesses
1.     Main strength is the widest range of product portfolio.
2.     Well differentiated and planned product line to meet changing customer needs and has varied business areas to cover customer needs.
3.     Attractive design styling that interests the customers.
4.     R&D facility is located at one single site which is highly useful in growing the business and economic scope.

1.     Patent infringement
2.     Investing heavily in development of newer markets and thereby not focussing on the core competencies.
3.     Lack of talented engineers to create their own programs or software’s
4.     Declining top-line performance.

Opportunities
Threats
1.     Variation of products by introducing unique ones and existing products with variety.
2.     User friendly products at affordable market prices.
3.     Open more stores across the globe and offer additional customer services more effectively.

1.     Intense competition from global electronic providers.
2.     Increasing capital requirements
3.     Legal war between the major competitors Apple.
4.     Major disadvantage is the low cost competitors in china

Summary and Recommendations
Simultaneous release of smart phones and electronics from different organizations seems to reflect the strengths and weakness of the major IT service provider Samsung. In order to overcome the drawbacks and improve the standards and capital income, in short term to reach its goals the company should maintain the stakeholder value by balancing basic three financial metrics like liquidity, growth and profitability and also they should manage to incorporate the objectives to their business strategies.. And the main recommendation is to clear all the disputes between apple and increase the resources and involve in ongoing development of electronic era and produce more efficient products which are more user friendly.

WEEK 4: SOCIAL NETWORKING AND THREATS

For example. The ability of people to share information with millions of viewers is the basis of a specific problem that social media is for business. In addition to providing broadcast commercially sensitive information , social media also gives the same power to spread false information that can be just as devastating.(Dinerman, B, 2008) Social networking sites can be a valuable sales and marketing tools , as well as fun distractions. inherent these applications are security risks that may put an individual or a company in a compromising position or serious risk. In order not to use these sites generally , formation of end users , as well as documented policies and procedures , is the primary protection , which exists . Informed user will not only help security , but also to educate others on these issues and to identify best practices that can be standardized and mature applications are updated or new applications come along.(Carolyn, 2013)

WEEK 5: BROAD BAND NETWORKS
The term broadband refers to any type of transmission technology to transport several data channels wire. DSL service, for example , combines the separate voice and data channels over a single telephone line. ADSL, voice lower portion of the frequency spectrum and the data fills high .In a home network , broadband is a form of high-speed access to the Internet with the help of this transmission technology. Both DSL and cable modems are now broadband technologies . Broadband routers and modems are called broadband networking devices that support both DSL and cable. Other forms include home broadband fiber (FTTH) and fixed wireless .To qualify broadband internet services should only refer to the overall network capacity to support at least 256 kbps for connections in one direction . ( Gabriel, T, 2009)
DSL: DSL ( or Digital Subscriber Line) service allows the Internet using the unused son's phone calling interruption of your phone service. (Mitchen, B, 2006) The speed you experience with DSL depends on your distance from the distributor. Fiber Optic: The new service is a broadband optical fiber , which is the fastest on the Internet today . However , this type of Internet is still in its infancy its service area is limited, and because the setting of fiber optic cable takes some time to complete.

WEEK 6: MOBILE COMPUTING

Incredible making Web technology into our daily lives has changed domestic use from computers to mobile computing devices such as netbooks , smartbooks and e-books *. (Bucki, J, 2008) This new class of devices requires : All day use active / few days before the availability of High-Definition Multimedia and attractive user interfaces Web 2.0 Internet experience without sacrificing mobility Single-chip solutions Decrease PCB area , number of layers , passive components , energy consumption and costs (Chamberlin, B, 2013)
Many of the settings of the operating system Linux ( various flavors and distribution ), including Google Android and Google Chrome Windows Mobile Windows CE A wide range of connectivity options to ensure the best application software and services Low power radio broadband WWAN and WLAN Additional support services based on GPS location Additional support for DVB-T or DMB-T / H digital broadcasting High-Definition Multimedia and attractive user interfaces Video processors capable of decoding H.264 720p or 1080p Show controllers resolution Up to 1320 x 768 internal screen By 1920 x 1080 external displays 3D-graphics can drive high definition displays

WEEK 7: HUMAN RESOURCE SYSTEM

What is the system of HR?
Technology is everywhere in our world. We see it every day in activities such as banking , shopping , flight, entertainment or communication. We live with technology, and we are surrounded by it. We can not escape its impact and how it shapes our lives . But the trade union organizations also depend on the technology that we all our daily activities. Organizations use the technology of production , sales, production , marketing and, yes , actions and events in human resources. (Susan.M. Heathfield, 2005)
HRIS ( Human Resource Information ) or HRIS system (HRM) is a new world order of human resource management in the organization. The world in which scholars and practitioners in the field of industrial / organizational psychology has something to say and something to offer in order to enhance and optimize the technology and HR services. ( Mark.A. Huselid, 1995) The use of information systems based on Web enabled units of human resources to become more effective and administratively to deal with more strategic issues and long-term HR planning.
Organizations have used these options HRIS web in four main areas:
1. Bulletin Boards: Information on personnel policies , work and training materials can be made available to people worldwide .
2 . Access to data: Associated with databases , intranet allows employees themselves access to information services such as the use of sick leave , vacation balances, wages and so on, freeing up time for HR employees who have spent a lot of time responding to requests from the routine of employees .
3 . Employee Self-Service: Many intranet uses include free options - service for employees that employees can access and use their own personnel files to update, modify or make payments to , and respond to job opportunities elsewhere.
4 . Binding content : The integration of local area networks allows the database vendors of human resources and the employer can be connected, so that the data can be exchanged electronically. In addition, employees can communicate directly with all the world to submit and retrieve information about the staff.

WEEK 8: SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT:
The concept of supply chain management is based on two fundamental ideas. The first is that almost every product that reaches the end user represents the efforts of the organizations. These organizations are collectively referred to as the supply chain. The second idea is that the supply chain for a long time , most organizations have paid attention to what is happening in their " four walls ." Few companies understand , let alone manage, the entire chain of activities that ultimately delivered products to the final consumer . The result was disjointed and often ineffective supply chain . Supply chain management, then , is the active management of the supply chain to maximize customer value and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Activities cover the entire supply chain , product development , procurement, manufacturing and logistics , as well as for the coordination of information systems. ( Robert Handfield, 2002)
Organizations that are part of the supply chain is "associated " with each other and the physical flow of information flows. Physical flows include processing , movement and storage of goods and materials. They are the most visible element of the supply chain. But no less important is the flow of information. Information flows allow the various partners in the supply chain to coordinate their long-term plans , and to manage the flow of day-to- day goods and equipment up and down the supply chain

WEEK 9: DATA MINING CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES

DATA MINING AND TECHNIQUES:
Generally data mining is the concept of retrieving data and analyzing it from different perspectives and summarizing it into a useful information . the data mining software is useful to analyze the analytic part of calculations from various angles, dimensions and further categorize the final version. Data mining is primarily used today by companies with a strong consumer focus - retail communications , financial, and marketing organizations . This enables these companies to determine the relationship between the "internal" factors such as price, product positioning , or staff skills , and "external" factors such as economic indicators , competition, and demographics. And it gives them the opportunity to determine the impact on sales, customer satisfaction and profits. Finally , it gives them the ability to " drill " into summary information to view detailed transaction data . (Michaline, k., 2008) With data mining , a retailer can use the point of sale records of customer purchases to send targeted promotions based on the purchase history of man. By exploiting the demographic any comments or warranty cards data, the retailer could develop products and promotions to appeal to specific customer segments .
For example , Blockbuster Entertainment mines its historical database of vacation rental videos to recommend to individual customers . American Express to deliver products to its members in relation to their monthly expenses. Wal -Mart is a pioneer in massive data mining to transform their relationships with suppliers . Wal -Mart capture titles selling point of more than 2900 stores in 6 countries and continuously transmits data from its massive 7.5 terabyte Teradata data warehouse . Wal -Mart allows suppliers to over 3500, to access data on their products and perform data analysis . These providers use the data to identify customer buying patterns in the Store . WEEK 10: IT OUTSOURCING TECHNIQUES

IT outsourcing is a strategical plan derived from assessing which IT related functions are better performed by the outsourcing provider so that the project is done in the specified time than by an organizational internal IT department. ( Rouse. M, 20110 Outsourcing strategy requires the input of many departments , including operations , legal , supply chain and human resources. Responsibility for outsourcing , usually lies with the organization of CIO (CIO). For many companies , outsourcing provide the best technology for the organization at the lowest possible cost. Which is the best and most cost- effective technology, however, usually a liquid, because of rapid changes in technology and market volatility many organizations are looking to outsource their projects for cheap labour cost. (Maluniu, 2001)
However , the savings are not the only main strategy in the outsourcing. Some organizations try to transform companies which rely on outsourcing providers to help in this process. Also on this level , IT outsourcing strategy is changing . While in the past often have a large IT service provider for the entire project to manage organizations issues and recommend outsourcing strategies. (Shaila, M. Miranda, 2004)

WEEK 11: WIRELESS BROADBAND NETWORKS

WIRELESS NETWORKS:
Wireless networks are easy to set up and inexpensive. They're also unobtrusive -- unless you're on the lookout for a place to watch streaming movies on your tablet, you may not even notice when you're in a hot spot. In this article, we'll look at the technology that allows information to travel over the air. We'll also review what it takes to create a wireless network in your home. The wireless communication revolution is bringing fundamental changes to data networking, telecommunication, and is making integrated networks a reality. By freeing the user from the cord, personal communications networks, wireless LAN's, mobile radio networks and cellular systems, harbor the promise of fully distributed mobile computing and communications, any time, anywhere.
HOW WIFI WORKS:
Focusing on the networking and user aspects of the field, Wireless Networks provides a global forum for archival value contributions documenting these fast growing areas of interest. The journal publishes refereed articles dealing with research, experience and management issues of wireless networks. Its aim is to allow the reader to benefit from experience, problems and solutions described. (Bernadette, J., 2008) Many people also use wireless networking, also called WiFi or 802.11 networking, to connect their computers at home, and some cities are trying to use the technology to provide free or low-cost Internet access to residents. In the near future, wireless networking may become so widespread that you can access the Internet just about anywhere at any time, without using wires. (Marshall, B.,2005)

WEEK 12: FUTURE OF IT
In the next twenty years there could be possible major changes in the field of It, where the advanced devices deliver more information and entertain home and our pockets in the form of sensors which can monitor the environment from the floors of our homes and walls and there could be possibility of usage of chips that can deliver medicines into the human bodies.
Technology in the next twenty years:
On the whole, all the technologies will broadly fall into two types of categories like network based and interface based. Here one category will act as a connecting device and other will connect a device virtually with human. Technology brings diverse cultures to communicate more efficiently in every filed and it could help people and organizations to come closer and share their views together. (Kunal Sinha, 2004)
Key Insights:
To have a lasting impact - and win customer loyalty in the long run - Innovative products must be made to make an emotional connection with the user, by changing the way they think. In other words, if the business people as they want to get their products to their customers feel .Apple, the owners seem to have a very strong emotional bond with their computers to enjoy. Warm colors, soft or iMac or IBook , curves make its contribute to a large degree of emotional attachment. Technology will be the major changes like filling the gap between the rich and poor in the coming era in surprising ways. And particularly the information technology will bring more flexibility and transparency in the society, it allows the normal people to live multiple and assume with multiple identities.
